With 3AW now referring to themselves as Melbourne’s Own you may find yourself asking – ‘where have I heard that before?’
If you said when Bert Newton was in charge of 3DB you would right.
Between 1986 and 1988 the station was known as Melbourne’s own 3DB, the new beginning. Of course 3DB went on to become 3TT, later TTFM and now known as MIX 101.1.
I remember 3DB… During 1980-82 or so, coming home from school and doing my homework to 3DB and listening to the DJ Rick Melbourne… THose where the days. I remember hearing all those funny send up songs Rick Melbourne used to create. It was a good way to pass the year 11 and HSC years
3AW are stealing slogans fron Radio Stations that are no longer around. This twells us that 3AW are worried about what MTR 1377 wll do to their reevnue. Melbourne’s old boys club 3AW My Slogan for 3AW.
Could ‘AW manage to throw in ” The Greater” EX 3UZ, “The Brighter” EX 3KZ or even Hot Hits EX 3XY, just for old time sakes!
In a promo I heard on 3AW yesterday Brian Taylor said ”Melbourne’s own 3AW is football”.
I was waiting for the phrase ”The Greater”, as in 3UZ to roll off BT’s tongue alas it was not to be.
There was only one radio station that was Football and that was 3KZ!
3AW are now calling themselves “3AW is Football” which was the old 3KZ catch cry for many years by Ian Major and the late great Jack Dyer.
